These organic, edible finger paints are definitely the way to inspire your budding artist at an early age. They are textured, so they provide great tactile stimulation for infants and autistic or delayed children, besides providing a safe and fun art material for any kid. Plus they are made at home by a fellow granola-mom!

They also make great gifts!

You won't have any worries about these paints because they:

  • are made with infant-safe, edible, mostly organic ingredients
  • have an incredible shelf life
  • are easy to use
  • leave no stain on tables or skin
  • and if eaten, they have a pleasant taste and are very nutritious!
To use, add water to bottle, shake, then paint! Refrigerate after reconstituting. Or mix powder and water in a separate bowl for each art session. If paint thickens, add a little more water and stir. Sit back, without worry, and let your little one paint!

From Sarid Ditton, the creator of Wee Can Too and Organic Edible Finger Paints:
"When my first child, Savannah, reached about 3 months of age I started searching for a paint product that she could use for finger painting, but I was also aware that it would end up in her mouth. I knew it needed to be made from all natural ingredients and be safe for infants. I could not find this anywhere! There were many non-toxic paints, but nothing edible! So, as an avid cook, I started dabbling with certain organic plant based ingredients and came up with my product.

The food dyes listed below are the reason that I created the finger paints. I wasn't interested in putting these dyes in my infant's mouth. I know it is inevitable that my children will encounter food dyes over the years, as they are added to just about anything yummy or fun for kids. However, if I can regulate the amounts of these dyes and postpone their relationship with them, I feel like I am protecting them as a parent.

After making the paints for my daughter, I started making them for friends and eventually for retail stores. They have become VERY popular over the last few months and are selling out quickly. Now the paints are available at many retail and online stores, and reaching new national locations daily! They have been very successful because other parents are looking for the same, safe products! Best of all, my children LOVE them!"

These dyes are added to Crayola and many other major companies' finger paints, along with other chemical agents:
  • Blue 1 - Used to color candy, beverages and baked goods, may cause cancer.
  • Blue 2 - Found in pet food, candy and beverages, has caused brain tumors in mice.
  • Red 3 - This food coloring is used in cherries (in fruit cocktails), baked goods and candy. It causes thyroid tumors in rats, and may cause them in humans as well.
  • Yellow 6 - As the third most often used food coloring, yellow 6 is found in many products, including backed goods, candy, gelatin and sausages. It has been found to cause adrenal gland and kidney tumors, and contains small amounts of many carcinogens.
